Suncorp Stadium Queensland Walk of Fame

About

Suncorp Stadium is one of Australia’s most iconic sporting venues, managed by ASM Global on behalf of Stadiums Queensland. Home to many of the nation’s biggest sporting and entertainment events, it holds a special place in the hearts of Queenslanders as the spiritual home of rugby league.

As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the visitor experience, Suncorp Stadium commissioned the Queenslander Walk of Fame project, a permanent outdoor installation designed to commemorate the legacy of Queensland’s rugby league heroes and celebrate decades of State of Origin history.

The Purpose

The Queenslander Walk of Fame was developed to create a visually striking and emotionally engaging tribute that connects fans with Queensland’s proud rugby league heritage. The project revitalised the Caxton Street forecourt plaza, transforming it into an immersive public space that celebrates the passion and pride of the Maroons and the legacy of Queensland’s sporting greats.

CV Media & Signage was engaged to deliver the full design, manufacture, and installation package for the new commemorative walkway. The scope included the demolition and removal of existing artworks and redundant underground services, followed by the fabrication and installation of a wide range of bespoke signage and structural elements.

Key features included large-scale illuminated aluminium lettersets spelling “QUEENSLANDER,” toughened glass panels with integrated lighting, and perforated mesh lightboxes with custom-engineered supports. More than 380 individual plaques were produced, each custom engraved, infilled, and finished with anti-graffiti coatings to ensure longevity and visual impact.

The project also involved extensive civil and electrical works and the team worked closely with architects, consultants, and suppliers to achieve seamless integration across the entire forecourt environment, creating a space that is both functional and deeply symbolic.

Project Delivery

Delivering this project required precise engineering and coordination across multiple disciplines. The integration of complex lighting systems, concealed cabling, and IP-rated components demanded careful planning and technical expertise. The installation of large glass and aluminium elements within a busy public area presented additional logistical challenges, requiring specialised lifting equipment and meticulous safety management.

The tight timeframe was another significant factor, with just over two months allocated for design, fabrication, and installation. All works also had to be carefully scheduled around Suncorp Stadium’s busy calendar of live events, including NRL, Super Rugby, and A-League matches.

CV Media & Signage successfully met these challenges through innovation, collaboration, and detailed project management. Prototyping and sample approvals were undertaken early to ensure all finishes and materials met the design intent. Smart staging and scheduling allowed work zones to remain safe and accessible during major events, while RPEQ-certified engineers oversaw structural elements to ensure complete compliance and safety.

A key factor in the project’s success was the close collaboration across the broader CV Services group. The infrastructure, electrical, and plumbing divisions worked together seamlessly with the signage team to deliver the project efficiently and to a high standard. The dedication and enthusiasm of both the production and installation teams were instrumental in meeting deadlines and achieving an outstanding result.

The Outcome

Suncorp Stadium selected CV Media & Signage for its proven track record in delivering complex, high-profile projects within tight timeframes, supported by strong technical capability and comprehensive safety systems. The project also required close coordination with key stakeholders, including architects Populous, certifiers Philip Chun, and consultants INbrandigo, ensuring every element aligned with the design vision and operational needs of the site.

The completed Queenslander Walk of Fame now stands as a permanent and powerful tribute to Queensland’s rugby league legacy. Combining craftsmanship, engineering, and storytelling, the installation enhances the stadium’s forecourt and provides fans with an engaging and memorable experience.

Seeing the installation illuminated for the first time during the State of Origin series was a proud moment for everyone involved. For the CV Media & Signage team, the project represents not only a significant achievement but also a lasting contribution to Queensland’s sporting culture.

As one team member reflected:

“Knowing this tribute will be here for decades to come and being able to say, ‘I helped build that,’ is exactly why I became a signwriter.”
