Queens Wharf

About

Queens Wharf, Brisbane’s most ambitious tourism, leisure, and entertainment precinct, presented an unparalleled opportunity for CV Media & Signage. Partnering with Destination Brisbane Consortium, our task was to deliver a custom signage solution that not only met the functional needs of the precinct but also honoured the artistic vision established by multiple design agencies. Our involvement in this project required a detailed approach, seamlessly integrating practical elements with bespoke designs.

The Project

Spanning across various levels of the precinct, the signage solution featured a unique blend of materials including timber, stone, granite, aluminium, and digital components. Each sign was carefully crafted to reflect the distinct atmosphere of its location while ensuring buildability and cost-effectiveness.

For instance, six of the sign types incorporated natural granite cladding, with the granite cut and mitred to exacting standards by a specialized team of tilers over five weeks. The precision involved in this process was critical to maintaining the luxurious aesthetic of the development, while ensuring the signs were structurally sound and weather resistant.

Another distinctive feature was the use of timber posts reinforced with semi-concealed structural steel for added durability. Collaborating with a specialized timber supplier, we developed a unique design that allowed the connection plates to be routed inside the timber, keeping the structural support hidden and preserving the organic look of the signs.

Our scope also included five different types of digital signage, predominantly for wayfinding and advertising. These included digital wayfinding totems with 43” touch screens, lift signs featuring 24” screens, and external double-sided directional signs with P3.9 LED displays. Among the standout elements were the destination level ID signs, which featured a 360-degree curved flexible P2 LED display, offering a dynamic and modern visual experience for visitors.

Project management played a critical role in the success of the Queens Wharf signage project. Although the design elements were finalized by external agencies, our team was tasked with translating these artistic concepts into practical, manufacturable designs. The challenge lay in balancing artistic intent with the realities of material availability, cost, and installation logistics. Samples and material revisions continued for nearly a year, ensuring every element—from the colour palette to the material finishes—was precisely aligned with the client’s expectations.

The ability to manufacture a vast majority of components in-house at our state-of-the-art facility in Brisbane was a major advantage for this project. By maintaining control over the production process, we could ensure quality consistency and manage last-minute changes efficiently.

Our team also engaged in extensive research & development to bring unique elements to life, such as creating full-size samples of the timber and granite posts for client approval. This process allowed us to refine and perfect these designs before full-scale production, ensuring they met both the aesthetic and structural requirements.

CV Media & Signage were a pleasure to work with on the Queens Wharf project. Their dedicated sales and project management teams provided excellent support throughout, ensuring our needs were met with professionalism. They offered creative, value-engineered solutions that helped us maintain the unique design intent while reducing overall costs. CV Media & Signage’s ability to adapt and problem-solve made the process smooth, and we are very pleased with the results. Luke Ribeiro, Quantity Surveyor DESTINATION BRISBANE CONSORTIUM
